Cretemix Mixed Concrete

Cretemix was founded in 1980 by Christopher Hicks. The company consisted of one ready-mix batching plant based in New Germany (Durban, South Africa) and had five Nissan ready-mix trucks.

In August 2005 Steve Norcott , Douglas Steyn and Douglas Brown took over the running of Cretemix. Since 2005 Cretemix has expanded rapidly and grown from strength to strength, and today it is owned by Douglas Brown who runs it with his formidable team.

Meet The Team

Douglas Brown

NDIP Civil Eng – Owner

As one of the original partners who bought Cretemix in 2005, Douglas is now the sole owner of Cretemix Mixed Concrete. With over 30 years of construction and concrete knowledge, Douglas is the go-to for technical designs and takes care of the daily running of the company. His extensive knowledge of the readymix industry and attention to detail gives him the ability to steer his company in an upward motion. His moto “Family First” gives him that personal touch when dealing with staff and Customers alike.

Jean Micheal

Operations and Production Manager

Jean-Michael began his career in the construction industry as a maintenance contractor at Lafarge. In 2016, at just 24 years old, he joined Cretemix as a Plant Manager. Over the years, he has steadily progressed through the ranks, developing a wealth of technical and operational knowledge. Driven by a passion for continuous growth, Jean-Michael also pursued studies in project management, equipping him with the skills to successfully manage large-scale construction projects. Today, he leads both the operations and technical departments at Cretemix, where he plays a key role in driving efficiency, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Beryl Meyer

Sales and Marketing Manager

Meet Beryl Meyer! Becky joined the Cretemix team with over 8 years of experience in concrete and soils testing laboratories, including two years managing a laboratory that became successfully SANAS-accredited. Her in-depth knowledge of SANS17025 standards, combined with extensive hands-on lab experience, brings a new level of technical expertise and quality assurance to our Ballito operations. Becky is passionate about delivering consistent quality, outstanding customer service, and ensuring on-time delivery for our North Coast clients. In addition to her role at Shaka’s Head, she also supports sales across all Cretemix plants, helping maintain the high standards our clients expect.

Carys Wassink

Quotation and Scheduling Manager

Carys joined Cretemix at the end of 2023, bringing with her several years of experience in administrative roles. As the first point of contact for many of our clients, she handles customer queries, provides quotes, and ensures every interaction is friendly, efficient, and helpful. Known as the welcoming voice on the other end of the phone, Carys takes pride in delivering excellent service. She is eager to continue developing her skills, gaining valuable industry experience, and playing an active role in the continued success of Cretemix.

Raith Walters

Plant Maintenance Manager

Raith joined Cretemix in 2025 to head up the maintenance team, bringing with him a diverse background and a strong passion for problem-solving. His career began in KwaZulu-Natal as a motor mechanic, followed by time in New Zealand where he managed a small landscaping team and discovered his enthusiasm for development and hands-on challenges. Since becoming part of the Cretemix family, Raith has quickly grown into his role, now overseeing maintenance operations across four plants. With an eye on the future, he is driven to expand his expertise and transition into Technical and Production Management roles in the years ahead.
